It's an interesting idea but I doubt this will be even considered at Apple.

1. Microsoft won't let it happen. The Microsoft investment and profit sharing agreement with Open AI surely will make any deal to buy Open AI unpalatable.

2. As others have pointed out, the cultures seem to be at odds with each other. The products and visions are different - Apple is all about integrating their devices and services together, Apple intelligence is only one part of this. Open AI on the other hand exist to make AI as widely available as possible.

3. Apple going all in on one gen AI model is risky especially right now while an AI arms race is going on. We don't actually know yet which is going to be the better model/company long-term. Right now partnering with OpenAI makes a lot of sense strategically.
